Winter – Ski Les Contamines

Les Contamines combines truly stunning views with exceptional snow cover. Mont Blanc towers above the village, whilst its secluded location ensures that it remains relatively quiet and truly unspoilt.

Its snowfall record is the envy of many big name resorts, and virtually all of the skiing is above 1900m. The delightful local open slopes are ideal for sunny cruising whilst the regional pass covers some of the best skiing in Europe, including the varied pistes of St Gervais and Megeve.

This is a perfect area for mixed ability groups. Locally there is an abundance of open skiing over meticulously groomed pistes where beginners and intermediates can enjoy the confidence-building runs whilst experienced skiers will revel in the excellent safe, open off-piste.

Les Contamines’s local ski area, with over 120km of uncrowded pistes has many wonderful runs through the trees. Two telecabins take you up to the main area at Le Signal where at 1,900m, the majority of the skiing begins and extends upwards. Excellent snow cover is assured from December to the end of April providing for superb spring snow skiing. Additionally there are 29km of cross-country skiing and for snow boarders there is a floodlit half-pipe in town and a snow park on the upper piste. Other activities are snow-shoeing, evening snowmobile trips and sledging.

On the Mont Blanc pass there is plenty to tempt all standards. Close by St. Gervais and Megeve has more than 80 lifts and is a paradise for leisurely skiers who enjoy relaxed lunches in log-cabin mountain restaurants as well as those who relish a challenge.

A little further a field there is the fantastic skiing at Chamonix and Argentiere where, for example, the Vallee Blanche and Grand Montet slopes provide an unforgettable skiing experience amongst breathtaking glacial scenery.

Chalet Jolyvue is a few minutes drive from both telecabins, alternatively a bus stops outside the door (Frasse Milieu) Bus Timetable, or a 5 minute walk into the village gives you access to a frequent bus service. If you hire your ski equipment from the Intersport shop near the telecabin you can leave it there overnight and walk back through the village to the chalet.

The Ski School has English speaking instructors and guides we can recomend Bruno Mollard as an expert mountain guide and ski instructor.

Les Contamines has skiing for everyone, from novice and family groups to ski mountaineering tourer.
